Khalid Usman, a community builder, is retiring after 25 years of service and was in-part, being honored for his involvement in community service. “The Pakistan Floods has been a disaster for millions of people in the country. It is not only about the immediate physical damage, but it is also about the long-term impact on the people of Pakistan. The devastation of this flood is unprecedented and I am happy to be able to contribute to relief efforts by working with IDRF”.
IDRF, which has a regional office in Pakistan and partner organizations across the country, has provided relief and development aid to the country for the past 30 years, and is currently on the ground in the affected areas helping to meet the needs of thousands of families. Many are calling this one of the most serious climate catastrophes in the world as the extreme weather events continue. Since mid-June, Pakistan has been experiencing abnormal monsoon rainfall which is nearly three times higher than the past 30-years, affecting more than 60 districts with over 30 million people.
As part of its national $3 million-dollar fundraising appeal, IDRF has matched over half a million dollars in donations it received, thanks to the generosity of some of its key community supporters.
