(NEDAC) Alumni Association Canada is embarking on an ambitious initiative!
NEDAC, IDRF, and NED University of Engineering and Technology – Karachi, Pakistan are embarking on an ambitious project to establish a “NED Cloud”. In the first phase, two state-of-the-art computer labs will be established with 50 VDIs in each lab and storage for digital data.
They will be designed specifically to empower students from underprivileged backgrounds in their pursuit of higher education. These labs will be equipped with cutting-edge technology to foster learning in crucial and emergent fields in technology and engineering. The initiative is particularly focused on facilitating courses in web development, coding, cybersecurity, and others. This endeavour not only aims to bridge the digital divide but also to nurture the next generation of tech innovators and engineers.
What is Cloud Computing?
Cloud computing powers global innovation, enabling accessible education and collaboration. Through the NED Cloud project, IDRF, NEDAC, and NED University are building two advanced computer labs with 50 VDIs each, empowering underprivileged students with tools to excel in coding, web development, and more.
Letter from NEDAC president
In this era of rapid technological advancements, access to cutting-edge content and resources is crucial for students, enabling them to stay competitive and thrive in their fields. However, providing such access to students at NED University of Engineering and Technology (NEDUET) in Pakistan poses a significant challenge due to the country’s economic conditions. Recognizing this challenge, the NED Alumni Association of Canada (NEDAC) has taken the initiative to work with NEDUET and establish a private cloud infrastructure.
The project’s goal is to create a “NED Cloud,” that will facilitate computing services, storage services, platform services, application services, virtualization, messaging services serving as a comprehensive repository for world-renowned engineering books, research on cutting-edge technologies, webinars, seminars, and other valuable resources. By implementing this initiative, NEDUET students will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and compete on a global scale with students from renowned universities worldwide.
The project will commence with phase 1, which requires an estimated cost of $300,000. This initial phase will involve setting up 100 Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and storage to house the digital content. However, the project’s ultimate objective is to install 1,000 VDI, ensuring that all undergraduate students at NEDUET can benefit from this valuable resource.
To achieve the goals of this project, we humbly request the support and generosity of NEDAC members and community members who are blessed with the means to contribute. By joining hands with us and making generous donations, together, we can reach the target of phase 1, which is $300,000. It is important to note that donations made to this cause will be eligible for tax receipts from IDRF (International Development and Relief Foundation).
Your contribution to this project will have a lasting impact on the education and future prospects of NEDUET students, enabling them to access knowledge and resources that were previously out of reach. We believe in the power of education to transform lives, and with your support, we can make a significant difference in the lives of these aspiring engineers and technologists.
Thank you for considering this appeal, and we extend our deepest gratitude to all those who choose to support this noble cause.
Warm Regards,
Ghulam Malik,
President, NEDAC.
