Our Approach

We don’t always know what’s best — but they do.

Sustainable development is community-led — which is why we champion a unique localization model.

Our projects are initiated by trusted local partners, who understand the challenges facing the communities they live and work in. Instead of imposing top-down projects, we collaborate with grassroots initiatives, providing the resources needed to execute innovative solutions.

Our trusted partners embody IDRF’s core values, and go through a thorough vetting process. They bring a wealth of knowledge, and a deep understanding of the problems facing the regions they live and work in. Their nuanced, community-first approach helps us foster real, sustainable change that resonates and endures.

Relief & Development Are one

Relief work is not just about crisis response; it’s about sustainable development — and IDRF is dedicated to both. In addition to meeting urgent needs, we’re investing in long-term solutions that build the foundation for resilient communities.

By integrating relief and development, we’re able to address challenges before, during, and after a crisis. We tackle the root causes of poverty and inequality, prioritizing the rights and dignity of marginalized communities.

Our programs stand on four pillars:

Community-Centered Approach

In all our work, we account for local interests and priorities. We aim to bolster communities by employing locals, and sourcing our supplies from local businesses.

Sustainable Development

We facilitate long-term growth for the communities we work in. We rely on the experience and knowledge of people on the ground, closest and most familiar with the situation and those affected.

Respect and Inclusion

We believe that our beneficiaries know best, and strive to offer support that is culturally sensitive. Above all, we respect the autonomy of the people we work with, including any differences, be they religious, cultural, socio-economic, or political.

Equity and Accessibility

We tailor our programs to give vulnerable populations equal access to support services, without discrimination.
