EMERGENCY RESPONSE

For over 40 years, we have responded to communities facing conflict, natural disasters and economic crises across the world.

Our efforts focus on both short-term interventions and long-term rehabilitation. In addition to emergency relief, we empower communities through collaborative, sustainable development. This year, we assisted 1,378,837 people in crisis around the world.

EMERGENCY
RESPONSE

At IDRF, we incorporate best practices in emergency programming by prioritizing sustainability through our Respond, Rebuild, Recover, Resilience implementation process.

SUDAN EMERGENCY RESPONSE

It has been over two years since the war in Sudan began. Since April 2023, more than 11 million people have been internally displaced, with millions more forced to flee beyond the country.

IDRF’s 22-year history in Sudan and extensive network of trusted local partners enabled us to respond immediately. IDRF has supported thousands of Sudanese with food assistance and non-food items, which include tents, hygiene kits, and water filtration units. We have also reached families who have fled to neighbouring countries, such as Chad, through emergency water and food aid support. None of these interventions would be possible without our community of donors who choose to not look away and assist people enduring one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time.

THE FUTURE OF FOOD SECURITY

An estimated 8.2 percent of the global population, or about 673 million people, experienced hunger in 2024.

Global food insecurity is driven by compounding factors, including rising inflation, conflict, climate change, and economic instability. Our goal is to develop sustainable food systems, in addition to providing urgent relief to families in dire need. This year, 1,145,503 people received food assistance through IDRF’s food security programs.

WATER FOR ALL

Amid increasing water shortages, we are working to provide sustainable, efficient water sources to communities across the world.

Water scarcity disproportionately affects women and girls who are often responsible for travelling long distances to collect water. Global conflict and climate change are contributing to worsening water shortages globally. This year, we provided 1,689,958 people with access to clean water and hygiene-related services.

MESSAGE FROM OUR
BOARD OF DIRECTORS & CEO

As we reflect on 2025, we are filled with both humility and gratitude. We are reminded of the resilience of the communities we serve and the extraordinary compassion of those committed to supporting them. Families around the world continue to face the devastating effects of conflict, natural disasters, and economic instability. Thanks to your unwavering support, IDRF has been able to respond with dignity, compassion, and resilience.

This year, we reached more than 4.8 million people across 39 countries, delivering life-saving aid while also investing in long-term development.

From emergency relief in Gaza, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sudan, to education programs that opened doors for 120,000 children, to health services supporting 460,000 people, every effort reflected our shared commitment to building brighter futures. Here in Canada, we expanded programs that empower women and youth, ensuring that “People Helping People” remains at the heart of our mission both globally and locally.

These achievements are not ours alone. They belong to the communities who inspire us with their strength, to the grassroots partners whose leadership guides our work, and to the donors and volunteers whose generosity makes it all possible. Every life touched is a testament to what we can accomplish together.

Looking ahead, our five-year strategy, A Brighter Future, will guide our work as we invest in sustainable food systems, clean water, quality education, accessible healthcare, and economic empowerment.

We remain committed to ensuring that communities receive not only immediate relief in times of crisis, but also the resources and opportunities for long-term stability and empowerment.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. Your compassion fuels our mission, and together, we will continue to transform lives and build a brighter future for generations to come.
