Licensed to Learn

Licensed to Learn (L2L) is an IDRF project that supports Canadian children and youth in need of educational support. A registered charitable organization, L2L’s goal is to make academic support accessible to all Canadian students, by empowering young leaders through tutor training, and implementing free peer-tutor programming in schools nationwide.

The Situation

  • Almost 20% of Canadian children and youth live in poverty.
  • Evidence shows students from low-income households are disadvantaged in the Canadian education system through to post-secondary training
  • Only 31% of youth from the bottom income quartile attend post-secondary education, compared to 50.2% from the top quartile.
  • Academic support and educational opportunities need to be more accessible to help all students achieve their full potential.”

    How you can help

Your generous donations will make academic support more accessible to students across Canada by helping bring the L2L Peer-Tutoring Program to schools and communities that need it.

    • We provide free, personalized peer tutoring, empowering students to support each other.
    • We strive to  increase students’ academic performance while nurturing the development of leadership skills, empathy and mentorship.
    • We train elementary and secondary students as Tutors to provide one-on-one academic help and mentorship to their Peers.

We support all students with a focus on schools and agencies that serve vulnerable communities

      Girls Education in Pakistan

IDRF is working to ensure that girls throughout Pakistan have access to adequate education to help them reach their highest potential.

      The Situation

Government schools remain the only means of education available for nearly two-thirds of the Pakistani population.

It’s been reported that children do not have access to the highest education level while attending government schools because of students’ limited resources. Additionally, widespread safety and security concerns continue to affect women’s and girls’ access to quality education.

      How you can help

Your generous donations help IDRF support girls’ education in Pakistan. We overhauled a government school in Karachi and have rebuilt a model school. Equipped with modern facilities, these students have access to a high quality education as well as enriched extracurricular activities. This school serves as a model school or other government schools in the area.

Educational Support for Orphans & Vulnerable Children

We support hundreds of orphans and vulnerable children in Guyana to receive adequate and consistent education throughout the year by assisting with any challenges preventing them from attending school.

        The Situation

Around the world, orphans and vulnerable children are often neglected and receive little assistance to complete their education. Additionally, these children need support, such as transportation and food, to attend school regularly and reach their potential.

There have been a rising trend of referrals to our center; 1026 referrals in 2019 compared to 573 referrals in 2014. Challenges that have given rise to high death rates in child cancer patients:

        • Lack of cancer awareness

        • Lack of cancer expertise

        • Lack of enough cancer treatment centers

        • Inability of patients and their families to afford cancer treatment

In Guyana, economic and financial challenges have pushed many families into poverty. With a poor quality of life, many children do not have access to good quality education.

          How you can help

Through our program, we assist orphans and vulnerable children by ensuring we alleviate any challenges preventing them from attending school. We provide children with access to school bus transportation every day, stipends to purchase meals and medication. We also ensure that the children receive new school uniforms and seasonal gifts.

            Education for children with disabilities

Children with disabilities face various forms of discrimination, so IDRF provides long-term education support for children with disabilities in rural Pakistan.

            The Situation

Children with disabilities face various forms of discrimination, which leads to their exclusion from society and school around the world. While a lack of school access is an issue, an equal concern is the education system’s inability to ensure quality education for children with disabilities.

            How you can help

IDRF is continuing to provide 7,600 children and youth with the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of structured educational programming at the Child Center in Gaza.

              The Situation

Economic, political and social barriers have hindered access to safe and quality education in Gaza

                • This has been further aggravated by high poverty rates, inadequate living conditions and ongoing power outages.
                • A poor quality of education has contributed to low academic achievements among students.

              How you can help
